All you need to know about your adventure with us
Do I need a 4x4 vehicle to reach Bruintjieskraal & Glencoe chalets?
No. Bruintjieskraal & Glencoe are easily accessible with a normal vehicle and are situated approximately 9.5 km from the end of the tar road near Patensie. A 4×4 may, however, be required if you plan to travel further through certain parts of the Baviaanskloof.
Do the campsites have electricity?
No. There are no electricity points at the campsites. Each campsite does, however, have its own private bathroom facilities with a toilet, basin and shower, with gas geysers providing hot water.
Do I need to pay a deposit to secure my booking?
Yes. A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm your booking. The balance can be paid by EFT before arrival or in cash on arrival. Please note that we do not have card facilities on the premises.
Can I buy wood and ice at Bruintjieskraal?
Yes. Wood and ice are available to purchase at reception, so you don’t need to bring your entire supply with you.
What do I need to bring when staying in one of the chalets?
Our self-catering chalets are equipped with linen and a fully equipped kitchen, including a fridge/freezer, two-plate stove/oven combination, microwave, kettle, pots, pans, cutlery and crockery. Guests should please bring their own towels, drinking water and toilet paper. A starter roll or two of toilet paper is provided.
The chalets operate on solar power, so high-consumption appliances such as air conditioners and heaters may not be used. We recommend bringing a fan in summer and extra blankets in winter if needed.
Are you pet-friendly?
Yes, we are pet-friendly, subject to prior approval. Pets must be well-mannered and socialised and must remain under their owner’s control or on a leash. Pets may not chase livestock, wildlife or other guests and are not permitted on furniture or beds. Please contact us before your stay for our full pet rules and conditions.
Are there baboons or other wildlife in the area?
Bruintjieskraal is situated in a natural wilderness environment, so guests may encounter wildlife and should treat this as part of the Baviaanskloof experience. Please do not feed wild animals, and avoid leaving food or refuse unattended. We recommend keeping food securely stored and following any instructions provided by management during your stay.
Do the campsites have private bathrooms?
Yes. Each campsite has its own private toilet, basin and shower, and the bathrooms are fitted with gas geysers for hot water. Most campsites also have a covered kitchen area, although this differs between individual sites.
Is there cellphone reception or Wi-Fi?
Cellphone reception in the area is limited and in some places there may be no signal at all. We encourage guests to plan accordingly – and enjoy the opportunity to disconnect, slow down and experience the Baviaanskloof.
What time is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is from 14:00 and check-out is by 10:00. If you have special arrival requirements, please contact us in advance so that we can advise whether arrangements can be made.
How are children charged for chalet accommodation?
Children 2 years and younger stay free of charge in our self-catering chalets. Children older than 2 years are counted as a person for accommodation and occupancy purposes.
How do your campsite rates work for larger groups?
Our campsites are very spacious and ideal for families and larger groups. Each campsite has a minimum site rate per night during both the in-season and off-season periods, which includes a specified number of guests.
If your group exceeds the number of people included in the minimum site rate, additional guests are charged per person per night according to our current price list. Children under 12 years pay 50% of the applicable per-person rate, while guests aged 12 years and older pay the full per-person rate.

Are caravans, bush caravans and 4x4 campers welcome?
Yes. Our spacious campsites can accommodate bush caravans, off-road trailers and 4×4 campers.
While our campsites are large enough to accommodate caravans, we do not recommend travelling to Bruintjieskraal with a conventional road caravan, due to the condition and nature of the gravel road leading to us. If you are unsure whether your particular caravan, trailer or camping setup is suitable for the road, please contact us before travelling – we will gladly advise you.
Can we swim in the Groot River?
Yes. Guests are welcome to enjoy and swim in the Groot River. Please remember that this is a natural river environment with no lifeguards, and swimming is entirely at your own risk. Children should be supervised at all times, and guests should take extra care when river levels are high or after heavy rainfall.
Is the tap water safe to drink?
We recommend that guests bring their own drinking water. Water is available at Bruintjieskraal for general household use, showering and washing, but we prefer that guests bring sufficient drinking water for the duration of their stay.
Do I need to bring my own braai grid?
We recommend that guests bring their own braai grid/rooster. While we have provided braai grids in the past, these unfortunately tend to disappear from time to time, making it difficult to guarantee that a grid will always be available at every campsite or chalet.
To avoid any inconvenience, please bring your own braai grid and preferred braai equipment.
Is there a shop at Bruintjieskraal, and where are the closest shops?
There is no shop on the farm, so we recommend that guests stock up on groceries, drinks and other essentials before arriving. The closest shops are in Patensie, approximately 32 km from Bruintjieskraal, where you will find supermarkets and other basic services.
Although we do not have a shop on the farm, we always try to accommodate our guests wherever reasonably possible. If you have forgotten something, please speak to us and we will do our best to assist. Wood and ice are available to purchase at reception.
